When in Rome

We woke up in Rome! We were exhausted after a long day of travel and it didn't help that we got into our AirBnB untill late. We knew that after a week of go, go, go we would need a nap!

We went to a local grocer right around the corner and got some breakfast. Jed was thrilled to have cereal and milk and I was so excited to have fruit! After breakfast we got ready to go to the Vatican. NOTE TO SELF...when you go to the Vatican you need to cover up! I played it safe and wore jeans and a v neck tee shirt and was just fine. However  if you wear a dress with no cap sleeves or a dress that doesnt cover your knees, they will ask you to cover up with a shall or leave (it's so funny to me that they can be see through basically, but you just have to be covered.)
We got our tickets to the Vatican before hand because the line was outrageous! NOTE... we got played! We got stopped by a tour guide and he said that if we didn't want to wait in line to get from the Vatican to _____ you should go on a tour. They showed us the line and we thought no way we will pay the extra 20 bucks to not wait in line. We met up with our tour group and walked through security where we were handed a audio player. We could connect to the tour guide and they would talk to the group while we walked through this beautiful city!

There are 2 chapels where you have to be covered up, but besides that you can wear normal street clothes! It was also so interesting because we were asked not talk in the Sistine Chapel and no photography. However as soon as we got in there, so many people were talking loudly and taking photos like a normal tourist attraction (haha oh well.) Occasionally  they would speak into a microphone and ask everyone to be quiet, but it didn't really help. It was so interesting that it was such a sacred place to them, but no one treated it with respect. We got out of the chapel and headed outside. From there we could pay a couple euro to walk up to the top of the basilica and of course we did! So... many... stairs..., but the view was amazing! We had views of the entire inside of the basilica as well as amazing views of the surrounding outside! It was awesome! Afterwards we went into the actual basilica and were just blown away at the magnificent beauty and attention to detail of every little piece. You could spend hours in there just gazing at it all!

After we had our minds blown by St. Peters Basilica, we were starving so we started looking for food on our walk back to our Airbnb. We stopped at this cute restaurant where we fell in love with italian food! Italy is so cheap and the food is so good and filling! We had the best food and desserts! I'm still dreaming about how much I love italian food and eating any other form of unauthentic Italian food will never be the same. Afterwards we went home and crashed hard on the bed! We were so tiered! Most of our time spent in Italy we just would find fun little places to eat like this one below and we would try every type of Italian dish! It was one of the best parts.
Later that day we got back on to the metro and went to the Coliseum at night to check it out before we went the next day to see it. It was magnificent and crazy to think they could build such cool structures back in the day.
