Valentines Day Trip

(San Francisco 2013)
Jed and I decide to take an unexpected trip last week.  As soon as I found out I had a straight 6 days off work I told Jed that we needed to go on a trip! That night we booked a trip for San Francisco. We went on a six day tour of the city! It was supper random and unexpected we booked it on a Saturday and where gone by Thursday! We had so much fun and took so many pictures! This was our first trip alone as Mr. and Mrs. Nielsen! And it was one to remember

(Jed and I at a random tree in the middle of the salt flats!)
(Good Morning)
Day One: VALENTINES DAY

We woke up early and started the drive to San Francisco! We started around 5:00 AM we were both so excited to get to San Francisco that we weren’t tiered. We stopped in Reno for some lunch and started to hurry to our hotel. We had to get there by 5 so that we could check in our car at the parking garage. When we booked our hotel we didn’t know that there was no parking! But the hotel did offer valet parking for 60 bucks a day. Jed and I thought that was too much! So we found another place around the corner for 100 bucks for the six days! It’s crazy how expensive everything is down there! That night, we checked in to the hotel Monaco around 4:30 it was a sunny 70 degrees and so nice! I didn’t know that the best time to go to San Francisco is in February because it is actually warmer in February than in the summer!

( Our Sweet Hotel)
That night since it was Valentine’s Day so we couldn’t get any reservations for the fancy expensive restaurants. Instead we walked to an Egyptian restaurant a block away! It was so amazing! We had never had that Egyptian food before but we really liked it. We had rice, lamb, and cucumber and tomato salad with hummus! That hummus was the best I have ever had! So much better than the store bought stuff! We than walked around looking for a restaurant to get a dessert. We decide to go get some gelato!

On this trip Jed and I decide that we want to try as many local places as we could. So we only ate at one chain restaurant. And all of the other places we ate where hole in the wall! We thought It was much better than chain restaurants.
Pretty much every night we walked around I was so scared because there were so many scary homeless people that I stayed so close to Jed.
Any way we went back to the hotel after our "romantic" night on the town and went down to the hotel spa! Which was so nice! We sat in the hot tub every night after walking around. This was by far my favorite valentine’s day, because it was so laid back, Jed and I just having fun in a city we had never been to together.

Day Two: Golden Gate Bridge

That morning I was so excited to get up and see the city that I woke up at 6:30 because I was so ready to see everything! I was nice enough to wait till 7:30 to wake up Jed; we got ready and went down stairs to get some hot chocolate. Which was the best I have ever had!!! The whip cream was amazing! When I would get hot chocolate I would pour half a cup of hot chocolate and the other half of the cup was whip cream! Mmmm so good! We went to breakfast at this place called Honey Honey! Such amazing food! The first morning we went there I had hash browns and Jed got French toast. They had Amazing food but not so good of service! We than headed to Union Square to catch the trolley

(Breakfast At Honey Honey)
(These Hashbrowns were amazing we went back twice just for these guys)
(Mmmm French Toast)
(The Menu)

This was probably one of my favorite parts of the trip Jed and I got to stand on the outside of the trolley, and hang out off the trolley! We rode the trolley from Union Square to the pier 39. When we got there, we looked at a lot of old boats and took so many pictures. Of us just goofing around we went over to the actual pier and walked around. We decide that we were going to ride bike across the bridge. Which was about 8 miles to Sausalito, when we got over to Sausalito we had a late lunch at this Mexican restaurant that was so good! It was just like a little shack off the side of the road. Jed had a fish taco and I had some salad thing which was so amazing! We got done with that and decide that we should bike the Muir wood which would have made the whole bike trip about 20 miles. We started biking and we made it half way (3miles) and I was so sick of ridding in my boots and Jed’s touchy was hurting so we turned around. We took the fairy back which was so much fun! Jed and I were so tiered from our bike ride that we thought it would drop us off right back off at pier 39 but the fairy dropped us off like a half mile away. We biked back and dropped off the bikes. We got back on the trolley and took it back to Union Square we stopped at this pizza place for dinner. Jed had his first taste of a gyro and he loved it!!!!

Day Three: Muir Woods
Day three was a little less hectic we woke up and went to Honey Honey. Jed loved my hash browns so much that we had to go back and get him a plate. We got there a little bit later than we did the day before and it was so busy! So being the Utahans we are, we decided that Jed would stand in line and that I would save us a table. I was sitting at the only open table and one of the bus boys comes up and asks if I have a number and I said my husband is just in line I’m saving a spot. And he said well go stand in line with your husband so that someone else who has already ordered can sit here. I was so annoyed. But I said ok I hope that we can find a place. I guess that’s how people in San Francisco are. So we did get a table and I told the bus boy him how I felt about it.

(Jeds A boss)

We decided that we should go to the Muir Woods because we didn’t make it the day before. We drove across the golden gate bridge. We were going to go to the Muir woods state park but we couldn’t find parking and it was 7 bucks per person to get in so we just went to a playground that had the same trees! That was so fun! They were so tall!!! We had fun at that park! After we played at the park we went down Lombard Street! And then headed back to our hotel. We dropped off the car and on our way back we saw this place that had pho! Jed and I went in and had some soup! It was good but my aunt Julie’s is 10X better! This Pho that we had had a lot of weird things that I had never eaten before. It had cow stomach... eww and something that stuck to the back of Jed’s throat. Ya I’ll stick to Julie’s from now on. But it was good! We decide later that day to go shop around union square.  Jed took me to sacs 5th Ave. OHHH MY, that is the most expensive store ever! We Went to H and M, Maceys, and we looked at Tiffany’s. We were hungry and walked around for 30 mins trying to find some were that looked good to us. We ended up going to this little cafe called angel cafe. We had some of the best sandwiches ever! We grabbed a slice of cheese cake to go and went back to our hotel for the night!

Day Four: Lazy Sundays
Sunday was another sightseeing day, we went to see where full house was filmed! The Painted Ladies, that whole week Jed and I were calling it the Pink Ladies... oops. They had an amazing view of the city behind the house and there was a place where you could sit on the grass and look at an amazing view of the city and of the Painted Ladies. And of course when we were sitting there we had to play the full house song.

(yumm Take me back)

(Its Going to be a "full house" one day haha)

That day we also went to the beach!! I love the beach and would love to live there one day. We went to a beach that was west of the golden gate bridge. While we were at the beach Jed wanted to go walk down to the rock which were closer to the golden gate bridge. we decided to walk down there as we were walking we laughing at how funny people in California were because we could ALWAYS smell pot being smoked, as we were talking down the beach we saw some pregnant lady modeling  but what would happen next I can’t erase from my mind. Ha-ha on this beach the closer we got to the rocks the less clothes we saw on people... so we didn’t make it all the way down to the rocks but we made it as close as we could before we saw to many naked people! Ha-ha that will be a story to remember.

(walking to the beach)

(So in Love)

(We called these Rape allies)

Day Five: Jeremy’s
On Monday we heard from the people at the front desk that we should go to this place called Jeremy’s it’s a store that is like a very high end Down East. they sell a ton of designer clothes that were either worn by runway models and they don’t need them any more so they give them to this store or they have a little stain on them so they sell them there. That store was way fun! We walked there and back! That store was almost as expensive sacs 5th Ave. But a lot of their clothes were really nice! Just too much! We looked around for about an hour and didn’t find anything that we could live without! We walked back and that night we had gyros again because Jed wanted his own this time! And we had the best raspberry gelato! We also played wii tennis in the lobby while a bunch of older people were drinking wine. But we had so much fun just walking around down town and going to high end stores.

Day Six: Jail
We woke up and decide that we were tiered of Honey Honey for breakfast so we went to another restaurant. It was pretty good. Nothing to exciting, but that day we went to Alcatraz! In the morning it was really cold and rainy! So we were cold walking down to the bus but as soon as we got on the fairy to go over to the prison it stopped raining and was really sunny! So that was good! We had a lot of fun exploring the island! We walked around for a good 3 hours and took tons of pictures. The funniest part was when we were on the audio tour they would talk about one thing or another and as soon as they would talk about a certain cell... Jed would take a picture of it! It was like a game for me to guess what he would take a picture of next. So funny

Later that day we went and got a picture of the golden gate bridge. We decide that we are going to collect pictures instead of little trinkets that we will throw away one day. We got our self’s one and my dad one for his birthday. We rode the bus back to our hotel grabbed some dinner at a retro diner!

(70's Diner)
I loved how Jed and I try to stay away from the chain restaurants we try to go to places that were one of a kind! That’s what made the trip tasty!

Day 7: Goodbye
I was so sad when we had to leave our little town that was so much fun to be around! But of course we had to go out with a bang! So we went on a Segway tour!!! Yes! It was so much fun! We went around golden gate park and it was so pretty! So many flowers and was so big! Segway was the best way to see it even if I did look like a nerd doing it! The funniest thing was when we were getting trained on how to ride them, there was this really old guy and he was struggling really bad. Jed and I were whispering how we didn’t want him in our group because he would be so slow. But guess who was in our group. The guy who couldn’t figure out the Segway !He actually did pretty well! But we were laughing so hard that we had to go with the guy would couldn’t figure out how to ride one. We took a tour around the park and then we had to go home.
I’m grateful that Jed is a good driver because I did not contribute much thankfully we got home safe.

All in all we had such a fun trip and I’m so glad that we could go! I’m glad that we made it there and back safe! I can’t wait to go on more trips with Jed in the Future! We already have two trips planned in the near future! Which I’m excited about!

Also I'm sorry for some of the quality of the pictures! I downloaded them to my computer and my computer mad so many copies of them! I Must have clicked on some of the bad ones that can be any bigger with what they are.

  1. I'm so glad that you guys are out seeing the world, and enjoying great food while you're doing it. I like your idea of staying away from the chain restaurants, and eating at the local ones.
Thanks for sharing your trip with us. Great pics!
