LABOR DAY

This Labor Day was one that we will for sure remember. We left for the lake late at night Jed was tired so I drove up to Logan and then he drove through the canyon because let’s be honest I'm not the best driver at night so I had Jed drive through Logan Canyon which was kind of fun because he drives fast and going through the canyon at high speeds is so much fun...kind of scary but fun. We got up to the cabin around midnight and we were so tired that we went to bed. When we got up there my grandma said that there might be a Hobo spider in our room, so to be careful....luckily no spider though.

The next morning my cousin came to wake us up to go wake boarding. We sleepily got up and got in the boat. We got out on the boat and I went slalom skiing! This was so much fun I hadn't done that in forever. I got up the first time and had so much fun. Jed went wake boarding he wanted so bad to get up on a wake board. He tried a couple of times and just couldn't quite get up. We think that the board that he was using was too small for him so he wasn't able to get up. After he got up it was too choppy of water to go wake boarding so I ended up not going but decided to go later that night.

Later that afternoon Jed and my cousins went wake surfing which I have never done but it looks like so much fun! Later that night he told me he was really sore and I said ya me to! I mean after a day of boating anyone is sore.

Later we were playing night games and Jed told me that his back was really swollen and that it was hurting. It was late so we decided in the morning we would go over to the bear lake clinic in the morning. We went to bed and he woke me up around 4 telling me he was in so much pain. We had tried ice before we went to bed so I thought that we could try heat so we tried to get him outta bed so he could get in the shower and he couldn't move. After 45 minutes of us trying to decide if there was anything we could do I woke my brother up so that he could give Jed a blessing We also woke my cousin and they gave him a blessing asking that he would be able to make it through the night and that the doctors would be able to figure it out.

After the blessing I thanked my brother and cousin and I went to go get him some ice. Once I got back Jed told me we need to go to the hospital right now because he couldn't wait any longer. I grabbed everything in the room and I threw them in the car and my brother helped Jed to the car. I was so stressed out because I had never seen Jed in so much pain. My brother pulled me aside and said

"Kenz...Jed is going to be in pain but be sure to drive safe." I’m so glad that he told me that it made me calm down.
Once we go in the car and I pulled outta the cabin and Jed screamed and I knew at that point that we weren't going to be able to make it through Logan canyon because of all the turns. I made the choice that we were going to Mont Pilliar ID which is a little closer to our cabin and it is a much easier drive for him but it was a much smaller hospital. I drove as fast as I could and after about an hour we finally got to this tiny hospital! I pulled up and the ER was two rooms and no one was there. I asked the people in the cafeteria if anyone was here and they said that we will go get you someone.

Once Jed was in the hospital they got his info and decided that they were going to give him an anti-inflammatory and a muscle relaxer shot in his hip. I thought that sounded like the most painful thing ever, but he said he couldn't feel it! While they were giving him the shots I was holding him up. Once we sat him back down in the wheel chair he was so white! I mean Jed already has really pale skin, but he was really pale, almost gray.

After they gave him those shots it was probably one of the hardest parts of our trip. He was in the most pain that night, even after the shots which had not helped. He just kept saying, it hurts so bad that I want to cry, but if I cry it’s going to hurt even more. I was just trying to tell the nurses that he needed some pain killers. They probably thought that Jed was the biggest druggy and I was in on his drugs trying to get my husband high. We finally got an IV with some Vicodin which seemed to help the most, but after about 30 minutes that wore off so he asked for morphine ( when he broke his neck that was the thing that worked the best). They gave him 4 shots of morphine and it didn't even touch the pain. They went in for a CT scan and they found that nothing was wrong that they could see. So they decided that we should work on pain management. So we got transferred into a room and they just kept giving him pain medicine till his pain level was down enough where we could go home.  They ended up giving him medicine that was stronger than morphine and  an anti-inflammatory. We sat there until his pain was under control. After we got that under control they let us leave.

We drove home through Preston Idaho and we stopped at 6 different pharmacies trying to find somewhere he could fill his prescription. After we finally found one in sugar house we dropped of his and my prescription and they told us that it would be 2 hours. We waited till 11 o’clock at night then went back to pick it up. When we got there, 10 people were in front of me. Jed was in the car and I was waiting in line. I was so tiered! I had only gotten three hours of sleep and I had been up since 4 that morning. I had driven from Idaho to Utah and we were both ready to go home. When I got to the front I asked if I could get my husbands and I's prescription. He went back to find them and only came back with one (when we were supposed to have three) he said " I’m sorry but we can’t fill the other two because the doctor had written the wrong number on them but we can fill yours." I started to cry because I didn't want to see Jed in that much pain again. I called the hospital in Idaho and told them what was going on and they said that they couldn't do anything till the morning. So I picked up my prescription which was unnecessary and could have waited till the next day. I kept telling the pharmacist that I was sorry that I was crying and that I was just tiered. As I was paying my $0.38 cents for my pill (which made me more angry because I had waited three hours for a pill that cost $0.38 cent) the pharmacist  said "be careful the pills your husband is taking can cause him to stop breathing and or have a seizure." That’s when I lost it. I was in hysterics I didn't need to hear that my husband could die on these pain pills!

I got in the car and Jed who was high as a kite said its OK they gave me some pills to last me through the nigh,t but it would be cutting it close. I drove home and on the way home Jed kept telling me that I needed to get it together which I finally did. That next morning I woke up and I immediately thought wow I over reacted last night hahaha. We got his medicine all taken care of and he spent two days in bed. He is still in pain and we are hoping to go see a doctor early next week.

We think that he was in so much pain because his back muscle was so swollen that it was pushing on his sciatic nerve. So if anyone knows of something that can fix it please let us know!

All in all Jed decided that when we get a boat he will be the boat driver and he can drive everyone around which at this point I think is an awesome idea. I hope everyone else had an amazing Labor Day weekend!
