To start... Best time to travel and how far out to book
When we started looking for our Europe trip we told Jed’s brother that we wanted to go to Europe but we didn't have15k to spend on our trip. He told us to check out Norwegian Air, and you could get flight from NYC To Stockholm for around $100, And how you could get flights from Cali (LAX or SFO) for around $200 each way Depending . Jed and I were hesitant but stocked! We started looking up flights and found out that this was so true! Lucky for us Jed’s brother was going on a trip to Europe and was going to try it out and tell us all about it. He went and Thought it was just fine. They had T.V.s on the back of each chair they had meals and he was able to sit next to his wife. So, we thought we would try it out.
We started looking in February for the best and cheapest time to go to Europe. We started looking at flights from LAX> NYO (Stockholm) we knew that was there hub airport and that was going to be the first place we would go. Using their low fair calendar, we decided that September would be a great time to go. We also looked at lots of blogs about the weather in Europe at that time and what time of year is the busiest time to travel. May through August is a huge time for everyone to travel and most people in Europe take their Holliday in August. and more people from America and other countries travel May through august. A lot of the websites said that September was a great time to go because it was after the high tourist traffic and right before it got cold. so, September it was.
When we started Norwegian air has this awesome way of looking at which cities they fly to. (EX. You click on the city that you will be in and it show from that city where they fly and how much it cost to fly from that city.) This is how we decided what cities we were going to go to and how to make it less expensive. We knew it was cheapest to fly from LAX>NYO (Stockholm) After that we looked at what city was cheapest to fly from which was NYO>OLY (Paris) which was $824.20 for two people and on it went.
We found all of our flight first, the dates, the times they left, and everything before we even booked one! We had multiple tabs opened on our computer from where we were going to start to where we were going to end. after we got all of our tabs open up and we had it set in stone that we wanted to go to these places and such we started booking! When we started booking we found it is so cheap because you could add on stuff that you wanted (Ex, for that low of a fair it doesn't come with a checked bag, picking your spot, or even a meal.) For each one of these it was about $45 add on. which can add up quickly. So, we opted to hope for the best! Just kidding we have a plan! Jed’s brother told us that he asked if they could switch spots so he could sit next to his wife and they Airlines was really accommodating with them once the where at the airport. We are going to buy some subway sandwiches and snacks and call it a day! We are also going to only pack a carry on for three weeks! So, stay tuned for tips on how I'm going to pack!
Once we started booking we also could have bought insurance on our trip. meaning if we need to change a flight or cancel it would be covered, once again Jed and I are very lucky that we are very healthy and we don’t plan to have to cancel our trip and we will make it happen! But Norwegian air does give you 4 hours to cancel or reschedule your flights. We ended up taking advantage of this because we were going to fly from Paris to London but decided to take the Chunnel, and there so no problem with getting our money back! Also in the confirmation Email they have an option to reserve a seat, add products and all. So, if you want to pick a seat or add a meal you can do that.
